Fishing opener is finally here! I have some big expectations for Mille Lacs walleyes this spring. Excellent walleye fishing on early ice is hopefully a good indicator of things to come this season.
When chasing walleyes this spring, some of my best techniques include:
Dragging a Lindy rig and spottail shiner on the north end sand.
Fishing the evening bite with a slip bobber and leech on near shore rock piles.
Casting a paddle tail swim bait on shallow water rock/gravel transitions.
When fishing for pre-spawn smallmouth bass, some of my best techniques include:
Paddle tail swim baits fished slowly, near the bottom.
Jerk baits in shallow water on a warm day, slow and deep on a cold day.
The ned rig, because it always catches fish.
Fish populations appear to be good this year, I believe we are set up for a great season!
Good Luck Fishing!
Ryan
